Future floating city planning

floating city

The population is increasing. Cities spread for hundreds of kilometers. And what is the condition of the coastal cities? Experts say that the floating city is a good idea. Recently, they have prepared to build such a floating city in Busan, South Korea. These are the features.

A floating city

It is known how devastating a tsunami can be. We have seen sea level rise and erosion of roads along the coast. At the same time, the spread of concrete jungles on earth is creating an environmental threat. Since 1880, the sea level has risen by nine inches. It is likely to increase by another 12 inches by 2050, according to a recently released report by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NAA). Rising sea level is likely to threaten power supply and transportation facilities in coastal areas. Experts say that the only alternative way to deal with this menace is to build floating cities.

Wonder on the water

Oceania, a company that develops floating cities, and the authorities of Busan, South Korea, are building a floating city on this water. Oceanics operates under the auspices of the United Nations. It can be said that nuclear engineering is a marvel in this city, which is going to be built on a total area of 15.5 acres. It consists of interconnected platforms built on water.

There is also connectivity with the earth. Each floating area is designed to serve specific needs. Total float anchored to see the city like a ship.

Build like this

There are large basements to prevent the platforms from sinking into the water. They are filled with air and carry the weight of the building. This area can be used for waste management. The platforms are attached to the seabed with the help of a mooring system to reduce their movements. It moves up and down. The platform adjusts to float when the water level rises. A mooring system helps in this. Biora is used to develop coral reefs on the lower part of the platforms. Biorock absorbs minerals from the sea to form a limestone coating. It is many times stronger than concrete. It self-repairs itself over the years.

All the facilities are there

Being a port city, Busan has a population of 34 lakhs. A floating city is being developed here to accommodate the growing population. First, it is being built to accommodate 12,000 people. But it can be expanded to accommodate one lakh people. Shopping, dining, places for other general needs, market, etc. The floating city is powered entirely by solar panels. Water recycling plants are used to recycle water. Greenhouse, aeroponic and aquaponic systems are essential for organic farming. The food needed by the people is produced in the hydroponic towers. Bamboo will be used completely in the construction. They are determined to complete the construction of this city and make it accessible by 2025.

  • Japanese engineering company Shimuzu Corporation has revealed that it is designing a floating city named 'Green Float'. It is said that it is being designed to withstand tsunamis.

  • The Government of Maldives has announced the launch of a project named 'Maldives Floating City'.
